Many people reach a stage in their life where they begin to question who they are and how they became the person that they are.
They may find their role in life has changed, for example, the kids have grown up, they want to start a family, they are beginning to question why they have the values they do.
HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP WITH PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT?
When working with someone who comes to Counselling for Personal Development or personal growth I would begin by helping them to challenge their values and belief with a view to allowing them to choose for themselves whether they are 'true' values/belief or whether they are 'learnt' values.
As this process continues, the individual will start to question the elements of their life which are causing concern, and also start to explore the emotions which are underpinning their values and beliefs.
By challenging these values and beliefs the individual will start to become aware of who they really are, what they really believe in and how they wish to live their life.
This process can take years although some people will come to Therapy for a few months then have a break and come back once they have processed the work they have done so far.
