ANXIETY

ANXIETY / PANIC

WHAT IS ANXIETY?

Anxiety or Panic are one of the most common reasons that people will seek Counselling support.

The way in which anxiety manifests can differ widely between people.

Some of the symptoms of anxiety are headaches, chest pain (tightness in chest, palpitations), stomach problems (nausea, butterflies), neck tension, shortness of breath, dizziness, weakness in legs, numbness or tingling, disruption to sleep (either sleeping too much or not enough), intrusive or unwanted thoughts.

The amount of symptoms experienced and the severity will differ widely between different people.

Everyone will experience anxiety during their lives, it is when the anxiety starts to interfere with their life that people often seek support.

HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP WITH ANXIETY or PANIC?

When working with someone who is suffering from anxiety I will work with them to help them identify what situations cause them to experience anxiety (what triggers it).

Once these triggers have been identified we can work together to find ways to deal with the anxiety (coping strategies).

If needed, I can also help someone to learn Grounding Techniques as a way of dealing with anxiety when it happens.

If the person wants to understand why they have become anxious in the first place I am also able to work longer term with them to help them to discover where the anxiety comes from (what the root cause is).
